Liga MB Round 9: No surprise as #1 Aguila defeat Chalchuapa

Liga MB top team - Aguila (9-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed eleventh ranked Chalchuapa (0-10) in San Miguel 100-67. Aguila dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 26. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 57-24 including a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Aguila looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. American forward Brenden Van Dyke (203-1998, college: Emporia St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 21 rebounds (on 14-of-17 shooting from the field) for the winners and Panamanian forward Pablo Rivas (198-1994, college: NCCU) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Aguila's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward David Daniels (196-1998, college: Spring Hill) with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Aguila have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Chalchuapa at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost.
Liga MB top team - Aguila (9-1) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Santa Tecla (6-4) 75-70. Panamanian forward Pablo Rivas (198-1994, college: NCCU) nailed 24 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Marquise Mosley accounted for 24 points and 7 assists. Dominican Ezequiel Perez (201) came up with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for Santa Tecla in the defeat. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Aguila. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Santa Tecla at the other side keeps the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Cojute.
The game in Usultan was also quite interesting. Third ranked Quezaltepeque (8-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Santiagueno (2-8). Quezaltepeque defeated Santiagueno 71-61 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Alberto Liriano who scored 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Freddy Asprilla who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and 29 rebounds. Quezaltepeque moved-up to second place, which they share with Metapan and San Salvador. Loser Santiagueno keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Santa Ana.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: San Salvador won against Nejapa on the opponent's court 101-89. Brujos was outscored by Cojute in a home game 76-113. Santa Ana recorded a loss to San Salvador on the road 91-84.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 42 points (!!!) and 20 rebounds by Adonis Lopez of San Salvador.



Aguila - Chalchuapa 100-67

Santiagueno - Quezaltepeque 61-71

Quezaltepeque dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Santiagueno's 32. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Quezaltepeque made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was Alberto Liriano (-1998) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. American center Marc Montavious (206-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and 29 rebounds and Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-1987, college: App State) added 33 points (!!!) respectively. Rather expected game when 7th ranked Nejapa (4-6) was defeated at home by fourth ranked San Salvador (8-2) 101-89 on Saturday. San Salvador had a 30-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Dominican forward Adonis Lopez (-1997) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Dominican Jonatan Bello (-2001) chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Four San Salvador players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Kylon Higgins (190-1993, college: Arkansas Tech) who recorded a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Brandon OBrien (201-1990, college: Clark Atlanta) added 29 points and 8 rebounds respectively. San Salvador moved-up to second place, which they share with Quezaltepeque and Metapan. Nejapa lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with six games lost.

Brujos - Cojute 76-113

Rather predictable result in Izalco where sixth ranked Cojute (6-4) smashed 10th ranked Brujos (1-2) 113-76 on Saturday. Cojute looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cojute made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was Lee Vasquez (176-1991) who scored 53 points (!!!) and 6 assists. American center DAndre Downey (206, college: William Penn) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was Joshua Quincy who recorded 25 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and Amilcar Rodriguez added 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. Four Brujos players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cojute moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Santa Tecla. Loser Brujos keep the tenth position with two games lost.
